Happy 2012! I'm busy clearing out the old and making way for the new. I'm cleaning out my house and studio to get ready to paint some new work. I had a fantastic holiday season with fun art fairs and met so many nice people. Humboldt Artisans Crafts and Music Festival

This weekend I will be selling my work for the holidays at the 31st Annual Humboldt Artisans Crafts and Music Festival at Redwood Acres in Eureka, CA. I will be sharing a booth with my friend Loryn White, who makes beautiful ceramics. The fair will be open December 2-4. I will have original paintings, prints, cards, pins, and ornaments for sale. The festival is fun and has lots of great gifts for everyone!

Preparing for the Holidays

I'm painting lots of small paintings right now for the holidays. My little paintings make great gifts. Right now I'm working on owls, hummingbirds, goldfinches, succulents and dahlias, and I also have experimented a bit with beeswax and encaustic. Fun! I'll be selling my work this year in December at the Humboldt Artisans Festival at Redwood Acres in Eureka and at the Winter Arts Faire in Redway at the Mateel Community Center.

Western Tanagers with Dahlias

This month my work will be at the new Humboldt Artists Gallery in the Morris Graves Museum in Eureka. The grand opening was October 1st, during Arts Alive. Also, I have some paintings in a Day of the Dead show at Los Bagels in Eureka.

I will be showing new work at two venues this month. The Garden Gate and the Arcata Artisans gallery in Arcata will have my new paintings on display. The opening for both is during Arts Arcata, Friday September 9th, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. I'll be running back and forth across the Plaza to show up at both of them!

This painting "Robin with Dahlia" is at The Garden Gate, created with acrylic and composition leaf, measuring 16"x 20"on a 2" deep panel.

I'm having a great time playing with my watercolors, making little bird paintings. I haven't worked in watercolor in awhile, and I'm enjoying the transparency of the color and the clarity of the image.

I'm getting back into the swing of things after a very busy holiday season. I took a rest, caught up on commissions and projects, and now I'm starting new things for 2011. I'll be showing my paintings at the Northcoast Environmental Center for the month of February, in the Jacoby Storehouse in Arcata. I'm starting new bright paintings for spring, with western tanagers, ravens and goldfinches.

I am tired of the gray skies and rain we've been having all month, but on the bright side, I've been painting! I have a new painting inspired by my Russian Blue kitty, who I found lurking around in our camellia bush recently, searching for birds.

I've been working on several new paintings for an upcoming show in May at the Morris Graves Museum- a small show on their ground floor, near the sculpture garden. The sun is shining after a wild storm and a 6.0 earthquake yesterday. I barely felt it..I thought it was the wind from the storm! I'm posting more paintings to celebrate the feeling of spring in the air.

Puppy training is progressing, and I've found time to make new paintings and pins/pendants to show at the Arcata Artisans gallery. In February I will be one of the featured artists at the gallery. My paintings have a springtime feeling to them, with plum blossoms and birds. If you're in Arcata, stop by the gallery on the plaza and check it out!

My year has begun on a hectic note, because a new puppy has arrived in our household. We have named her Lola and she is sweet and full of mischief. I have been so busy training her I haven't been able to paint yet...but by the end of the week I have to start!

I've had no time for painting lately- too many things pulling me in other directions. I guess that's typical during the holidays. I'm enjoying baking and decorating the house, but I'm daydreaming about paintings I want to create.

I did make some pins/pendants with some transfer images from my paintings for the Arcata Artisan's holiday sale. They are made with polymer clay, gold leaf, transfers on clay, paint, and beads. I really enjoyed creating something different, in a small scale.

Experimenting with pastel

I played hooky from life today and went to a beautiful estate with a painter friend of mine for a day of landscape painting and drawing. I experimented with pastels, a medium I haven't worked with in years, enjoyed the sunshine and conversation, and felt restored by the end of the day. My toes are still thawing out, but it was worth it!

Time Change

I think the time change is sending me into hibernation. I go to bed at 8:30 or 9:00 and sleep for ten hours. I wake up when it's still dark and enjoy my coffee in the quiet. I've finished the paintings for my next show. Now it's time to clean the studio!

I spent the morning hanging art at the Arcata Artisans, an artist's coop that I belong to on the Arcata Plaza. Now I'm off for a walk in the sunshine.

El Dia De Los Muertos-November 1, 2009

The Day of the Dead is a time to remember loved ones who have left us. I had two paintings in a show this year celebrating the Day of the Dead- "Pushing Up Daisies" and "George and Martha", a portrait of my grandparents. Martha died in 1989, and George passed away a year ago during an afternoon nap at age 103. They were fabulous grandparents and I miss them!

So far, it's a beautiful day for trick-or-treating. Halloween is my favorite holiday. For me, it is about connecting with your neighbors, being creative, and of course, eating candy. Enjoy, everyone!

I spent the morning at my daughter's school, looking at all of the kid's costumes and watched the entire school dance to the "Monster Mash" on the playground. Now I'm working on a painting of ravens on a clothesline...

I'm working on new paintings for an upcoming show in November and December 2009 at Plaza Design in Arcata. I'm painting spotted owls, ravens, snowy plovers, chickadees, succulents, trees, dahlias, swallowtails...and other things as well! I'm enjoying this work and look forward to showing it.
